For Vegans in North East England

I certainly do and don't feel any less vegan for doing so. I'd much rather sweeten with local honey than processed sugar. Plus honey is very good for the health. I'd love to have my own hive if I could. Bees are essential for nature to survive.

If you feel that it isn't vegan to eat honey then please can you explain it to me, as so far no-one has ever given me a convincing argument that has made me feel I should stop using it. Thanks.

I don't eat honey as I prefer to eat agave syrup, sometimes called agave nectar. It has a low glycaemic index, and is really good for anyone like me who likes organic raw food, but it's suitable for everyone. I don't know much about the processes involved in the production of honey, and so far I haven't had time to find out about any cruelty issues relating to it, so to be on the safe side, I use agave syrup instead. I also use other plant based sweeteners like date syrup and maple syrup, does anyone know about any others?

Honey isn't vegan. Check out the vegan society web page http://www.vegansociety.com/html/publications/leaflets.php

and click on "Honey - Ain't so sweet for the bees". It's a pdf file.

bee vomit, as a friend told me.

I think bee keeping is essential but if its done factory style they often clip the wings of the bees & gas em to death when they have all the honey they want
